Clothes Closet History:

The Clothes Closet opened over 45 years ago. It started as a small operation in the church to serve as a clothing swap for the church congregation. When donations grew and there was an abundance of clothes the church decided to open it to the public twice a month. In 1998 the Clothes Closet was given a designated space to operate the ministry. Since then, it has continued to grow into what it is today.

The Clothes Closet’s purpose is to carry God’s love to people in the Thurmont community and beyond through love, prayer, and free clothing.

About

The Clothes Closet is set up to serve Christ and share Christ with people. We are here to provide free clothing to the church and community members that need it. The Clothes Closet runs completely on faith and donations. All the clothing that is on the shelves at the Clothes Closet comes from donations.

How does the Clothes Closet help me serve Christ?

It takes a lot of people to help the Clothes Closet run. We rely solely on our volunteers. We are constantly getting donations, so we are constantly sorting through them. Monday mornings are our sorting time. Volunteers come in and help go through the donations and stock shelves. We are open to the public three times a month, and we have volunteers to help the shoppers. There are many opportunities to volunteer in the Clothes Closet, so if you are looking for a way to grow your faith and serve Christ this is a great place to give your time.

How does the Clothes Closet share Christ?

The Clothes Closet is open three times a month to the public. Some of these people know Christ, others do not. During our openings, we give a little message that shares Christ with the shoppers. We also offer prayer time as a group and are available for individual counseling and prayer.

How do I donate?

The Clothes Closet runs on complete faith in God that we will have clothing to give to the public. We rely on donations and know that God will always keep the bin filled with donations, and it is always what we need at the time. If you are looking to get rid of some clothing and would like to donate to the Clothes Closet, it would be greatly appreciated. By the Clothes Closet building, there is a brown bin for our donations. Just simply leave your donations in the bin. If you would like a receipt for taxes at the end of the year, please leave a self-addressed envelope in your bag and a list of what was donated, and we will send a receipt in the mail.
