Words of Encouragement 4-23-24

Hey Church, our word for this week comes to us from Luke 7:18-19, 28a.

“John’s (the Baptist) disciples told him about these things (miracles Jesus did). Calling two of them (John was in prison), he sent them to Jesus to ask, are you the one who is to come (Messiah) or should we expect someone else.”

And in verse 28 Jesus said, “I tell you, among these born of women there is no one greater than John.”

I want to talk to you a little today about when we have moments of doubt. Even though Jesus said that John was the greatest man born to women, John, still had moments of doubt. You’d think that surely John would know who Jesus was after he proclaimed his coming and had personal encounters with him when he baptized Jesus and heard the voice from heaven proclaiming who Jesus was.  Yet in his moment of weakness and at a low point in his life he wondered if Jesus really was “the one.” That may be true for us today as well.  When things happen in our lives that we don’t expect (illness, death of loved ones, hardship, and just bad things in general) we may experience moments and feelings of doubt and questioning. But I want to remind and encourage you today that even when this happens Jesus is still right there with us through the power and the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives.  Look to him for peace, comfort, and guidance through these things. As it says in Psalms 23:4 “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me, your rod, and your staff, they comfort me.”

God Bless
