Words of Encouragement 4-4-24

Hey Church, our word for this week comes to us again from Jesus himself in Matthew 7:24-25

“Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rains came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against the house, yet it did not fall because it had its foundation on the rock.”

I want to talk to you a little today about how people are looking for something “solid” to put their “hope” in. In our world today there are very few things that we can be sure of, with all the uncertainty, sickness, violence, wars, famine etc., everything sometimes seems to be on “sinking sand.” I want to encourage you and remind you today that as a “Christian” you have the only “sure hope” there is. As it says in the old hymn “on Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand.” Whatever you may face in this life (and there will be trials and tribulations) you are not alone. You have the very Spirit of Jesus (the Holy Spirit) dwelling within you to strengthen you, to comfort you, to teach you, and to guide you.

Jesus promises us this in John 14:16-18 “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever. I will not leave you as orphans, I will come to you.”

I’ve used this next scripture a lot lately, but I think it’s a good reminder for us. Hebrews 12:1-2 says, “Therefore since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders, and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.”
